This directorate deals with the prevention of discharge of pollutants to the watercourses, through the collection and proper disposal of hazardous liquid materials.
1) Department of Sanitary Liquid Waste for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with the liquid waste discharge from a building’s or structure’s sanitary fixtures, such as toilets, washrooms, urinals, sinks, showers, small laundries, and from kitchens and cafeterias essentially free of industrial wastes or toxic materials
2) Department of Industrial Liquid Waste for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with the liquid wastes from industrial manufacturing process, trade, or business as distinct from sanitary sewage.
3) Department of Storm Liquid Waste for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with water that is discharged from a surface as a result of rainfall, snowmelt, snowfall or other precipitation.
4) Department of Mixed Liquid Waste for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with mixed liquor which is a combination of raw or unsettled wastewater or pre-settled wastewater and activated sludge within an aeration tank.
5) Department of Liquid Waste Dewatering for Environmental Sustainability
This department focuses on the facility which generally pumps the liquid waste into a sturdy bag and removes the water, leaving only solid waste.
6) Department of Liquid Waste Sedimentation for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with a process that removes solids that float and settle in the water. The process relies on the use of sedimentation tanks that remove larger solids. Subsequent treatment processes may be used after sedimentation
As long as liquid waste flows quickly, its velocity is often enough to keep solid particles in suspension, so the design of a sedimentation basin reduces that velocity. As the wastewater flows slowly through the basin, solid suspended particles settle to the bottom in a layer of sludge.
7) Department of Liquid Waste Compositing for Environmental Sustainability
This department focuses on how facilities can turn their liquid nonhazardous waste into compost. The facility first removes the water from the waste, leaving behind organic matter that contains nutrients like nitrogen, potassium and sodium
8) Department of Liquid Waste Incineration for Environmental Sustainability
This department focuses on the waste liquid incineration system which treats various liquid wastes discharged from various production processes of petrochemical, fine chemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, pulp and other industries without secondary pollution. There are many possible applications for this system.
9) Department of Liquid Waste Root-Zone Treatment for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with the root zone approach to wastewater treatment which uses wetland plants and naturally occurring microorganisms associated with their roots to remove contaminants from wastewater. The technique is to develop a special kind of “constructed wetland” through which the wastewater flows.
10) Department of Liquid Waste Solidification for Environmental Sustainability
This department deals with liquid waste solidification which is the preferred alternative to underground injection. It is where bulking agents turn the water waste into a solid and are then land filled
11) Department of Liquid Waste Disposal for Environmental Sustainability
This department focuses on liquid waste disposal. Liquid waste from businesses requires proper disposal to avoid polluting nearby water and contaminating the land. Delaying or not getting rid of liquid waste could breach regulations, damage the environment, your finances and reputation.
