About Aco Foundation Africa
Augustinian Community (ACO) Foundation is a nonpolitical, nonreligious, and non-profit making organization registered under section 10 of the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act in the Republic of Kenya. Its membership is in Africa. The main aim of the Foundation is to promote environmental protection and natural resources conservation in Africa.
The motivation behind this initiative is the fact that we are living in a dirty environment more especially in major cities and towns in Kenya.
Therefore, Visual pollution, Air pollution, Water pollution, and Soil pollution are quite evident. The main contributing factor is the increasing urban population which has made the demand for food and other essentials rise, hence causing the amount of waste being generated daily by each household to increase. However, not all of this solid waste gets collected and transported to the final dumpsites.
To make matters worse even the solid waste that has found its way to the final dumpsites which are not even legal is not scientifically disposed of. Apart from solid waste also liquid waste is a menace being released raw into roads and water streams more especially in Major Cities and towns in Kenya. When the management and disposal are improperly done, it can cause serious negative impacts on health and environmental degradation in general.
Thus we felt as a group we can begin doing something more especially to focus on “Participatory Environmental Sustainability Empowerment and Capacity Building”. That is why our focus will be on Africa, the beginning point is in Kenya.
